As a child, a great aunt worked in Pittsburg, Pa. Each Christmas she would send Bayberry candles. I found a box tucked away in my mother's things. It has a verse on the box which says " A bayberry candle Burned in the socket Brings joy to the heart And wealth to the pocket." The writing on the box states, 100% pure. Bayberry Candles by Betty Bolling, Hand Dipt, Natural Bayberries. The Candle With A Colonial Tradition. They were tapers and a dull deep green in color as I remember. The custom at our home was to burn them on New Years Day. I believe she purchased them at Horne's in Pitts. I do not live in Pa. Also, I have not seen them in stores in many years. Yes, there are bayberry candles but not the true tapers I remember. And yes, they smelled so good.
