it would be bad if all decisions are being made by money, but is it any different to suggest a different way of using the land, after all from your explanation pine nuts = cattle grazing, only it's a different crop. your way may be less destructive but is it any better? I ask myself these types of questions all of the time and have done a few things to help the animal cause, but until we as environmentalists and pro-life people do anything in the market that greatly reduces the amount of land used then it won't matter. somebody needs to be funding companies that will develop progressive ways of growing food that uses little land and resources. that is the only thing that will help us down the road. big ag is so entrenched in our political process that the only thing that can stop it is something HUGE in the marketplace. I don't want to discourage anyone, but I live in the midwest and am surrounded by farming, it has to be fought head on in the marketplace. even though pine nuts seem nice I don't think they're a step in the right direction.
