UNLESS YOU INTEND TO CONSUME SEVERAL POUNDS AT ONE SITTING, THE FRUCTOSE IN DATES AND ALL OTHER FRUITS WILL NOT SERIOUSLY AFFECT ONES BLOOD SUGAR. WHEN METABOLIZED, IT YIELDS ONLY HALF THE GLUCOSE OF SUCROSE WHICH IS THE "SUGAR" IN TABLE SUGAR AND THE DIGESTIVE PRODUCT OF MOST STARCHY AND GRAIN-BASED FOODS--WHEAT, PASTA, POTATOES, ETC. BUT WITH LOTS OF FLUIDS, DATES CAN BE A MUCH MORE POTENT CATHARTIC THAN PRUNES. N.B. RECENT LONG-TERM STUDIES HAVE INDICATED THAT THE GLYCEMIC INDEX IS GROSSLY UN-RELIABLE AS A DIETARY GUIDE. GLYCEMIC ACTIVITY OF MOST FOODS VARIES FROM PERSON TO PERSON, VARIES BY TIME OF DAY, BY AMOUNT CONSUMED. VARIES BY TYPES AND AMOUNTS OF OTHER FOODS EATEN WITH THEM. LET'S ALL SAY THIS ONE MORE TIME: YOU CAN'T FOOL MOTHER NATURE!!
