I have had Diabetes for a 13+ years now and anything that has carbs in it can be eaten to produce the excess glucose that the doctors will test for. Fruit juices and sugars are generally used because they enter your bloodstream faster than other carbs from foods like breads and grains. You only have to wait 15 min in the Dr office oppose to 30 min to an hour for more complex carbohydrates.

Some other signs of Diabetes are:
Excessive thirst for water, dehydrated
Frequent urination (every 30 mins or so) usually clear urine
Dry mouth
Sweet fruity taste or smell in the mouth or sweet smelling urine.
Blurred vision, hard to focus
Frequently tired
Frequently hungry
Significant weight loss

You may find more symptoms by searching for Hyperglycemia on the web.

Hope this helps =)
