i am hypoglycemic and do not do well on a low-carb plan. low carb/high protein is supposed to be bad for the kidneys, and i figure my kidneys and liver might not be happy in the first place if i'm having blood sugar probs. i seem to be doing better on a whole foods plan. as much variety as possible every day seems key in all the food groups, which are: protein, whole grains, low carb veggies in general, leafy greens, and high-antioxidant produce (including small amounts of many fruits) and herbs. with a little whole grain used more like condiments for carbs, and mainly a wide variety of organic raw veggies with an emphasis on plenty of colorful choices and always plenty of lettuce, parsley, and other leafy greens. variety with protein seems important, too, with nuts, seeds, and beans. and i look for variety in fats as much as possible. lots of water too. and little bites of fruit, tiny fruit salads...especially the high-antioxidant ones like blueberries, cherries, black grapes, pomegranates, kiwis...all of this makes me feel much more vital. i do sometimes feel i am short on protein, though, so i am looking for new food resources on that note. best wishes and good luck!
