I don't think that the perfect book for vegan diabetics exists today, and certainly not in the format you prefer. (If you would like to write one with me, please email!) I really like these books: That being said, I don't think that any of them will have a prescribed diabetic program with caloric levels that you specify. I suggest you choose one book, or a different one that others here suggest (Dr. Fuhrman comes to mind.), try that plan strictly for 30 days and TEST YOUR BLOOD SUGARS often. Notes: most vegan programs, at least those designed for diabetics will, IMHO, be lower in fat than 30% and may be higher in carbs than 50%. Most will, IMHO, get you at a slightly higher level of fiber intake. If you are not drinking soda pop (yes, diet, too!) and not putting an excessive protein load on your body, you may find that your calcium requirement to avoid osteoporosis is much lower. That being said, I take a calcium supplement to keep my MD happy. (Where do cows and elephants get their calcium for which they build massive skeletons? Their body produces it from their vegetarian diets! No other animals consume milks beyond their infancy-only humans. How odd.) The recent vegan diabetes study that showed that a low-fat vegan diet reversed diabetes symptoms did not include a caloric limit. People followed the McDougall dietary guidelines (his books, videos & DVDs are easy to find) and ate until they felt full. What freedom for a diabetic!! Raine
