Amie, I was so happy to see your post. YOu have indeed done a marvelous thing and taken control of your life and your health. Congratulations! Since you have had a diagnosis of diabetes, although you do not have it now, as years go by you will likely need to continue to watch your numbers. You might test your fasting blood sugars once amonth or so, if you do it at home, or you may rely on your physicians once or twice a year testing. Continue to follow your preferred vegan diet, of course. In addition, I suggest that you continue to read and research healthful diets, so that you can respond as your tastes and preferences and other circumstances change, as the years go by. You have a powerful incentive to keep you eating healthfully, because, you know, if you stray back to SAD diet, your diabetes and high blood pressure is likely to return. Also, I would suggest that you make sure to keep an active lifestyle, which includes regular exercise of some sort. A simple daily walk of 20-60 minutes would certainly do the trick. Also tai chi or yoga can be helpful. (OK, those are my favorites.) Biking or martial arts or ballroom dancing, or almsot any other physical activity that you do regularly can help your body stay in ideal shape for as long as possible. When unexpected events occur (such as illness or injury), your diabetes may re-awaken. Do not take such a setback as a failure, if it occurs. Here's hoping it will be several decades off before you face such a challenge. You'll be able to handle it well. Congratulations again. You have my admiration for your commitment to health. It is a great basis for a wonderful life. Raine
