Straight from the Catechism: "The Church permits cremation, provided that it does not demonstrate a denial of faith in the resurrection of the body." It used to be that cremation was very much frowned upon because it was seen as the destruction of a body we believe will rise again. That attitude still persists with some Catholics but it is a perfectly acceptable thing, so long as the person is not doing it as some kind of statement against the resurrection of the body.
