Pariyatti (.org and .com) is a non-profit organization which provides materials (books, DVDs, CDs, Podcasts) on the subjects of Buddhism, Dhamma and Vipassana Meditation (as taught by S.N. Goenka in the tradition of U-Ba Khin). All the podcasts (on this page) are free for the taking. If you only have time for one, I would recommend the following Dhamma podcast which was posted October 11, 2005: Meditation Now at Columbia (MP3) (Right click and choose Download). This 74 minute discourse was given by S.N. Goenka at Columbia University on April 23, 2002. Goenka clearly explains what Vipassana meditation is, and why its practice is so essential for those following a Buddhist path (and for those just looking to become a better human beings). He makes the point that simply reading and studying the words of the Buddha alone will not allow one to progress along the path. One must actually experience these truths, first hand, at the root level of the mind/matter, before the deeply rooted habit pattern of blind reactions can be changed. This is an effective method to go to the depth of the mind and experience the true nature of reality (Dhamma) and come out of suffering. Vipassana Meditation is taught in 10-day retreats held at various centers all over the world. For more information see: http://www.dhamma.org. Note: I have written about my personal experiences with this technique elsewhere on this forum. May all beings be Happy!
