Yeah, the more I study Buddhism, the more I love it! But I do agree with you, for most Westerners, it is a radically different way to think and many might close the door before giving you a chance. It took me a little while before I realized that the beliefs really fit me quite well. But when I looked at other religions, I felt uncomfortable, but not with Buddhism. It seems like I have a lot of options though as far as different traditions here locally. This Tuesday, I'm doing work/study for Shamhata: Nine Stages: Buddhism Cycle One at the Tibetan Center that I've been going to. Wednesday is Insight Meditation Community of Washington with Vipassana Meditation followed by a free Dharma talk at River Road Unitarian Church, and Thurday is Still Water Mindfulness Practice Center in the tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh. Then Sunday is the meditation group using the Quan Yin Method. So I should get a good look at a lot of different styles this week! It will definitely be a busy week meditating for sure....WHAHOOO!!!!!!!!! And I can't wait until this fall. I've been wanting to do something important like that for a long time. Hugs! BTW, want to hear something funny? I told my brother about Buddhism, and he told me he is a Wiccan and has been for many years. He said it came before Buddhism and they worship nature. I never heard of it myself, but I think its interesting how both of us left Christianity and decided to think for ourselves. I think when my mother finds out, she will probably not take it well! But hopefully it will be after she gets over the veganism thing.
