Well, if it helps you understand it, you could think of it that way. However, don't try to analyse that analogy too deeply, or you will get lost in it. The point of karma is that it is the actions that you have chosen to do in the past, or that you are choosing to do in the present. If it is an imprint on anything, it is on your consciousness. When it ripens, the consequences (known as vipaka) are the inevitable result of what you chose to do. Keith
