I have not been to a meditation center or a temple yet. Right now, I just study by myself, mostly because I have to finish my thesis first (only a couple of weeks left - scary!!). So whenever I take a break from my thesis, I read on Buddhism, and yesterday (Wednesday) I started practising on the half lotus posture, and I can tell that I am NOT very supple at all. But I hope that when I can go to a meditation class, eventually, then I will be able to sit in a half lotus easily.
I also try to practise my breathing/mindfullness when washing the dishes, when listening to my boyfriend, when making dinner, etc, it is not easy.
The books that I have borrowed at the library are so far some of Thich Nhat Hanh's books (Peace is Every Step, The Miracle of Mindfulness, and Anger), also Pamela Bloom's Buddhist Acts of Compassion, and Diana St. Ruth's Sitting, A Guide to Buddhist Meditation (I am ONLY practising the Half Lotus posture, not the meditation). I think I want to buy some of them to keep. When I have finished my thesis I want to read some of the Sutras, What the Buddha Taught by Walpola Rahula, and the Dhammapada as new mama suggested. I would also love to read ALL of Thich Nhat Hanh's books, he is a great teacher. But keep suggesting titles! :)
Well, it is a lot of reading but I love it very much.
I know there is a little Buddhist tempel not very far from where I live, so maybe I will contact them, eventually (the only one in town, and luckily near me, YAY!)

I wish you good luck with your studies. It is a great feeling that there are other "beginners" out there! I do not know any Buddhists where I live, I am sure that I will get to know some when starting meditation, and visiting the temple. But that is still in the future, so right now, I just concentrate on studying by myself.

Enjoy every step you take,
Camilla
