Hi, I injured my lower back mid-December and have severe sciatic pain 24 hours a day. I initially saw my chiropractor three times a week for the first two months. It helped with the initial trauma to my lower back but couldn't get rid of the sciatica. Had an MRI and everything, thankfully, is O.K. No herniated discs. I've tried a sports massage, an acupuncture treatment (may go back when out of this acute stage - even he recommended an anti inflamatory). The most severe course I've taken was to endure two sessions of prolotherapy (a series of painful injections into the ligaments to help your body form new connective tissue). About 4 days after the second treatment, the sciatic pain got worse. This past Monday I went back to my osteopath (the one who does the prolotherapy) and we have decided to do a cortisone block. No relief yet. We'll do these one week apart, for three times. I've only taken Rx Motrin to try to reduce inflammation, but I think I may have to resort to something stronger to try to get rid of this. Problem is that I think I won't be able to because I'm still nursing my 2 1/2 year old. Has anyone had any success with alternative treatments for sciatica and does anyone have info. on taking Rx. anti inflammatory (ie. Vioxx, Celebrex, or Bextra) while nursing? Also, I tried various natural supplements for the first month and a half, to no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
