It's actually very rare that babies that young wean them from the breast..instead it may be a nursing strike, or simply the fact that babies at that age are often easily distracted and sometimes difficult to get to stay at the breast for more than a few minutes because they're more interested in the world around them than nutrition...that doesn't mean that they don't need breast milk. The first year is a time for an introduction to solids only (especially at 5 months!!)..not a time where solids are to take place of breast milk...because of that, you should always try nursing first and THEN offer solids....let them fill up on the good stuff and then offer solids. Milk is way more important than solids at this point. Here are a few links that may help get him to nurse again...

Here's a link that talks about the reasons for delaying solids...maybe you should hold off on solids til he's a little bit older so that he doesn't miss out on the necessary breast milk?
