Hello! I'm transitioning to a vegan diet. My fifth breastfed baby will be three weeks old in a few days, and we are doing fabulous with feeding. He's regained his birthweight plus 15 oz. My question is, as I explore lowfat vegan foods, how much protein in grams do I need? Also, do I need to worry about B12 at this point, since I haven't been veg for very long? I also need to lose weight for health reasons so I'm trying to be careful about calories, carbs and fat. (I have insulin dependent diabetes and high blood pressure. These are obviously much better since the baby arrived.) So I try to live off as many vegetables as possible, minimizing processed foods (except veggie burgers and the occasional soy dog). I just don't want to go too far with protein restriction. Ideas?
