The woman that used to babysit for me has a four month old baby with turner syndrome. When she was born, all of her organs were determined to be normal, but she had a bit of troulbe nursing. After a month of using nipple shields, and a nursing supplimenter (loaded with bm), she seemed to be nursing fine. At about 2 months, here weight gained slowed way down. She took the baby to a specialist in Chicago, who ran asome blood work and found the baby to be extemely malnurished. It appears she is nursing well at the beginning of the feeding, but then gives it up once the initial let down is gone. Kim, the mother, is now pumping after most feedings anf then bottle feeding the baby the rest. At least once or twice a day she is adding cereal (rice or oat) and bananas to her milk. She is determined not to have to give her formula, but the doctor is really pushing for it. The doctor isn't asking for her to quit nurisng, just add powder to expressed milk a few times a day. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get a failure to thirce baby to eat more, or foods that can be added to the bm instead of formula?
