Oversupply is secondary to some other problem, often inherent in
the baby's latch. Oversupply is very common when babies latch
poorly and feed inefficiently and can be caused by structural
problems related to birth (very common), tongue-tie (much more
common that you would ever think), or just not having been taight
proper latch technique. When babies latch poorly, they are
ineffcient at emptying the breast and in some moms this causes
the supply to plummet and in other moms the result is oversupply.
Ohter contributing factors are mom's diet and hormonal profile.
Overyspply needs to be treated in 2 ways simultanously--you need
to use management to lower the supply and give baby access to a
more babalnced feeding and you need to find the underlying
problem so that ther eis permanent resolution.
Please read the questions I posted today for the mom whose baby
has refulx and answer all of the same questions.
