because of her condition, we have to give her an 1/8tsp of salt every day by mouth...The dr said it's easier to give it to a formula/bottle fed baby, but they'd rather have me breastfeed and give it another way. I dilute the salt in 15 mL of flavoring syrup and give that to her 4 times a day. she gags it down and most of the time, spits a good amount back up. I tried pumping some milk and putting the salt in that, but she hated that too...and then I'm afraid that giving it to her that way will make her not want to take a bottle in the future when i have to go back to work. this is a tough situation, but my real question and worry is giving her so much syrup (sugar). I try so hard to not let my 2yo eat very much sugar, and here i am pouring it down my other dd's mouth. by giving her this so early in life, is she going to have a higher chance of getting allergies later on? or since sugar is found in my milk, is that not really considered food? it'll be much easier when she is able to eat and consume salty foods instead of supplementing with just salt...but it's going to be a very long 6-8 months when we're able to do that. i asked the dr about the allergies, but he said not to worry about it...but that's coming from the people that want babies to start eating cereal at 3-4 months...so i dont know who to trust.
