Hi, Kathy! Sorry for taking so long to answer you!
I find it hard to believe that your protein was so
low that you got sick-- I don't think you were
getting good advice. It is not difficult to get
enough protein even on a raw vegan diet (I am not a
raw vegan, BTW). I recommend reading "Becoming
Vegetarian" and "Becoming Vegan" by registered
dietitians Vesanto Melina and Brenda Davis, and the
new book "Vegan for Life: Everything You Need to
Know to Be Healthy and Fit on a Plant-Based Diet" by
registered dietitians jack Norris and Ginny Messina.

These RDs all have helpful websites:

http://www.theveganrd.com/ (Ginny Messina)
and http://www.vegnutrition.com/index.html (Ginny
Messina)

The Vegetarian Resource Group has plenty of well-
resourced articles on nutrition-- links here:

I'm going to give you links to some articles that
may help you and explain this better than I can,
including some by vegan registered dietitian Ginny
Messina:

On this pafe is the link to the pdf file for the
abstract of the American Dietetic Assoc.'s (the
professional body for registered dietitians in the
USA)latest report on vegetarian diet:
