It's probably not that unusual to have cravings for
things that we were brought up with. I always liked
meat and I can still remember the taste after almost
30 years.
But, I think that if your reasons for being a
vegetarian are more than your personal health, then
you can let the cravings pass more easily. My main
reasons for not eating meat have to do with animals
and the environment, and that helps me deal with any
cravings I might have.
Meat substitutes don't really help when you try to use
them as a stand-in for a rare steak or something like
that. They are better used in a "chicken" pot pie or
a curry or something.
Try grilling some juicy portobello mushrooms, cooking
some delicious ethnic specialties, making real pizza.
Something full-flavored, juicy and with some "chew"
will help. But it's up to you and how much it means
to you to not eat meat, ultimately.
