Don't become a vegetarian just to lose weight. I have been a vegan for over 20 years and still have to watch my weight. I know several overweight vegans. It's all a matter of your metabolism, your genetics, your rate of exercise, and the amount of calories you eat. You can eat too much fat and sugar on a vegan diet just as easily as you can on an omni diet. Don't over-do the fats! I recommend Weight Watchers for weight Loss-- you can do Weight Watcherrs as a vegan or vegetarian diet and there is lots of support on the online version for vegetarians. I'm on the plan right now and have lost 15 lbs, and my husband has lost 18. We are not suffering at all! Susan over at fatfreevegan.com uses a combination of WW and the McDougall plan and has lots of recipes on her site and her blog!
