Hi Bryanna,
My name is Franco and I'm a 19 year old female student looking to go vegan. I'm
not a competitive bodybuilder but I have been weight training three times a
week and running six times a week for a month now. I really just do it for overall
health.
I have read from websites like bodybuilding.com and veganbodybuilding.com
that anyone who engages in weight training should consume one gram of
protein per pound of body weight. THAT'S A LOT OF PROTEIN. Do you think I
really need to consume such high amounts of protein? I weigh 137 pounds. To
be honest, I felt pretty sick after attempting to do it for a month. Dry chicken
breasts, plus the fact that I am slightly lactose-intolerant. Then I stumbled on
this website when I googled for options for healthier ways of living.
I want to stay away from textured plant protein because as much as possible I
want to stay away from processed food. I also want to stay away from soy
protein powders. Even as a meat-eater, I tried my best to avoid such food. Also,
Jeff Nelson wrote a pretty enlightening article on the possible detriments of
consuming too much soy. You can find it here, just in case you haven't read it
already: (http://www.vegsource.com/articles/soy_update.htm)
Another trouble of mine is since I engage in sports almost daily, I wonder if I
will be able to have enough energy throughout the day. Vegan recipes are pretty
low in calories, after all.
Are there books or websites you may want to recommend which offer recipes or
ways that will help start me off into this new lifestyle while avoiding processed
food?
I'm sorry for the confused structure of the letter. I really just wanted to make
sure I got everything down because I really have no idea where to begin. Thanks
so much for you time.
Franco
