I could use a lot of advice and support on social issues. I was a vegetarian for over five years. I then went to trying vegan. Well this did not work at all. In fact do to out side in flounces it drove me back to being a meat eater for two years.
This seems to be my problems.
1. I live in a very rural county in Indiana that does not understand, help, or treat vegetarians with respect at all.
2. I am only vegetarian in my entire family.
3. My wife is supportive as long as I use prepackaged meals, which I feel are very unhealthy in comparison to home made.
4. Even though wife says she is supportive she still complains that I do not eat the meal she has fixed “meat”
I handled all of this for over five years, but when I tried vegan I found it nearly impossible in this environment, and totally caved to eating meat again.
When I first tried going back to eating meat it made me sick so I went off of meat for a while then slowly started with very low fat fish and progressed into the rest of meat.
Now the community out here (which already referred to me as the fattest vegetarian they knew, even though I went from 225 lbs to 165 lb and size 42 pants to size 34) thinks of me as indecisive.
I only left vegetarianism once it did take two tries.
Now I am back to vegetarianism and hope to be vegan some day, however if you hear them tell it I switch every other week.
If you think, ridicule was bad before it has multiplied by ten fold. I cannot even read a vegan book at my work with out everyone pointing out how dumb it is.
My wife is still same way as far as attitude.
I really want to go vegan at some point in future.
Has any one else had this problem with society?
Can anyone offer advice?
I sure could use help.
Thanks in advance
