To tell you the truth, I'm beginning to doubt that very many commercial yogurt starters are actually truly vegan, but don't quote me on that. I have been meaning to do more research on this, but haven't had time. In any case, if there is any dairy in it, it is a matter of the bacteria being grown on a dairy product. It has to say on the package if there is milk powder in the starter.
The solution would be to use soy yogurt (commercial) as a starter-- most of them state that they are not using dairy startes. maybe they grow their own or something.
