The authorities in the U.S. say a typical adult needs 1200mg calcium per day. In Canada, it's 1000mg. In much of the world, the recommended daily allowance is 800mg. And lots of people worldwide eat less than 500mg per day and never get osteoporosis. Basically, the more protein you eat, the more calcium you need. And if your diet is really high in protein, i.e. the Standard American Diet (SAD) or especially (*shudder*) low-carb/Atkins diets, it is possible that no amount of calcium will be enough. So, it depends on what you eat. If you aren't overdoing the protein, 1000mg is probably plenty. Chances are you can get by with less. Keith
