I found your question interesting and amusing. Every society clings to the popular habits of the day. Most 'advanced' nations today take pride in being able to afford rich, fatening, deadly foods and don't want to hear about anything that encourages them to sacrifice that pleasure. Plus many corporations are making a 'killing', in more ways than one, promoting foods & pills that ruin our health! Drug companies seldom or never use the word 'cure' anymore! They 'manage' or 'maintain' and put you on a drug for life.
There are many teachings in every religion that are not necessarly physically healthy. But a 'good sheep' blindly follows their leader - no questions asked.
I have been interested in nutrition for many years but am just now getting serious about plant-based diets due mostly to "The China Study." I am nearly 71 and intend to stay as functional as possible as long has I am occupying this body. Wish me luck as I break old habits. :-)
