I am a 32-year old woman who has consumed a vegetarian diet 98% of the time, for the past five or six years. I love all vegetables, prefer soy milk to animal milk, and generally delight in vegetarian foods and cooking.

I will go months and months without eating any meat. Occasionally, however, I feel an overwhelming need for meat. Often before I get my period I crave red meat. And I find that at times when I am feeling stressed, emotionally low or lonely, I will eat meat.

I am wondering if this happens to anyone else. I am perplexed as to why I can't completely cut animal products out of my life. It's like I'm afraid to commit to something that I know to be ethically sound, better for my body & soul, and better for our planet. It doesn't make any sense to me, and I'm wondering if this could be some sort of eating disorder?

Anyone else with a similar predicament?
