I think I can help you. This is what I have learned about being vegan. Being vegan is a choice of rebellion in the face of what is wrong with society. The more we know about veganism...the more we will want to be vegans. It is a difficult transition to make because we have to learn how to cook and our friends and family usually react negatively to this change.
I became a vegan when my mom had cancer at age 42. She passed away at 44 and my uncle died of a heart attack at 37. I knew there must be something wrong with our lifestyle. So I read book after book. For a year all I ate was salads and vegetable dishes and tofu at Chinese resturants. I never felt I was giving up anything, but I do admit that I liked eating burgers and animal products. The food I ate as a vegan tasted good to me and my body began to crave only vegan foods. Now the thought of eating animals is not appetizing, but strangely the smell of cooked animals still smells good to me.
The point of my story is learn about it and find out if it something you want to do. There are other issues than the animal issue. The best resource for me is the Physicians Committe For Responsible Medicine, but books are really great. I am 29 now and have been a vegan for 4 years. My whole family is vegetarian now which is surprising. If you want to change the world you have to change yourself first...but find out if you like vegan foods first. Eat some salads, veggie burgers, hummus, chinese food, thai food, and see if it is good to you.
