Kelly-This is an old post, so I don't know if you'll even read this, but I just wanted to say that by taking any stand whatsoever against the cruelty of animals, you are making a difference. I don't think you should feel the least bit guilty by not being able to go strictly vegan. It is not for everyone, and you shouldn't feel pressure to become one. Stick with being a vegetarian and see how it goes and then you can work into it later. Vegetarianism in my mind is a personal choice. I don't look down on anyone for eating meat, and therefore I expect no one to look down on me for being vegetarian. And I think the same should be expected between those that choose varying levels of vegetarianism. Do what makes you happy, what is the most healthful, and what keeps you interested. Forcing yourself into something that you don't think you can handle, will just make this a negative experience, which it should not be.
