This is sort of off-topic, but it is about something close to many of our hearts: animal rights.

I work in a public school here in Houston, and I got a distress call from someone in the Sp. Ed. department. She wanted to know if I was afraid of mice because she had one in her room that was still alive. I went in, and the mouse was stuck on one of most inhumane things I could have imagined- a sticky trap! This thing is like really thick rubber cement that catches the animal and kills it- presumably by suffocation or starvation. The poor thing was still struggling to get loose, but he couldn't. I managed to pull him off of the thing without killing him, and I set him down in the dirt outside of the building. When I went back to try to dissolve some of the goop with alcohol gel, he was gone. I'm hoping that he'll make it back to his hole (or whatever) and "lick" the sticky off since it didn't seem to be poisonous.

Does anyone have experience with these awful traps? Why is this preferrable to the snap-traps which at least kill instantly (more often than not)? What sadistic b****ard thought these things up anyway? Josef Mengele?
