You know there's a lot of confusing info out there. I think the key distinction is in plant protein versus animal protein. There are scores of studies that show that ANIMAL protein (dairy, meat) correlates to numerous cancers (breast, prostate, etc., not just liver cancer). The same correlation does not occur with plant protein. You may want to explore Dr. Fuhrman's blog, diseaseproof.com and the Physicials Commitee for Responsible Medicine site for actual quotes studies and stats on this.

I also love the subtitle in one of Dr. Furhman's Eat to Live chapters, "the green grass made the lion." Though lions have an animal kill now and then, they get the majority of their bulk from grasses (greens!!). Same is true of primates (apes, gorillas), hippos, bulls, etc. All vegetarians and all big! You can get PLENTY of protein to grow on by eating just plant protein and avoid the hazards.

If you can go to a bookstore and just read a few chapters in Dr. F's book, I think much of the mess will be clarifed because he explains it so well and has multiple legid sitations (including from Cambell, McDougal and others).
