Hi all, Just reporting back on my successful completion of the Lake Placid IronMan this past July 25, 2004. The race is incredibly well run and the town of Lake Placid is not only bucolic, it's residents are gems. The 2.4 mile swim is a double loop in Mirror Lake. The water was warm (perhaps 69-70 degrees), clear and silky. The 112 mile bike course was a visually spectacular double loop through the Adirondacks. The eLeVAtioN changes were brutal but nonetheless that was a fun ride! The marathon course was perhaps the most beautiful one I've ever run. My son, daughter and wife met me about 150 yards from the finish line and we broke the tape together as an IronFamily. That was the best part. The race concludes on the same track that was used when Eric Heiden won speed skating medals. It's just a great experience - one I highly recommend. So, although I finished considerably slower than the quintessential vegetarian IronMan, Dave Scott, I finished comfortably. Now that I know I'm capable of completing this distance, I hope to do this race again (perhaps in 2006) and turn in a competitive time. regards John, N.D.
