Bat-munching rocker Ozzy Osbourne is on an unlikely health kick -- he's become a vegetarian.

The former Black Sabbath front man shocked fans and angered animal lovers when he famously bit the head off a bat onstage in 1982.

But the rock wild man's flesh-eating days are over -- he's embarked on a meat-free diet.

Osbourne tells Britain's Sunday Times Magazine, "I've pretty much become a vegetarian. Seriously. It's my new phase: brown rice and vegetables. I don't even drink milk, apart from a splash in my tea. It ain't because of the animals. I mean, I used to work in a slaughterhouse. You won't see me marching over the frozen tundra, hunting down people who club seals. I just can't digest meat any more.

I heard Black Sabbath's "Sweet Leaf" on the radio today...a fine ode to ganja. Great hearing Ozzy's gone veg. I remember the flack he took in 1982, for biting off the head of a bat onstage.

Ozzy told the press at the time that he worked in a slaughterhouse every summer as a youth, and was therefore desensitized to the violence involved with killing animals for 'food.'

Ozzy could have silenced his critics right then and there by going veg...I'm glad he's come around to the veg way of life, even if it isn't for strictly moral reasons... (yet?)
