HSU sophomore Jenna Savage, a zoology junior, wants to make the world a more loving and compassionate place for animals.

Jenna Savage and her sister Mary Sue Savage co-organize the AWARE club on campus. Though it is Jenna Savage's first year as the co-organizer of the club, she is happy with the club's progress.

AWARE (Always Working For Animal Rights and Equality) throws events, distributes leaflets, organizes vegan potlucks, and holds club meetings. The goal, said Mary Savage, is to raise awareness about how animals are treated in society and promote equality and non-violence toward them.

"It's been great working with so many dedicated and compassionate students and community members on making Humboldt State a more welcoming place for vegetarians and vegans and a more compassionate place for animals," she said.

This year, AWARE dedicated itself to make HSU a more vegetarian and vegan friendly place to eat. They worked with Ron Rudebock from HSU Dining services to implement more vegetarian and vegan options in the J and in the Depot.
