Losing
Weight
Over my early middle years, I began to put on weight.
I was still ovo-lacto at that time. I thought I just
needed to exercise more.
Finally, it became apparent that my weight was not
just weight, but fluid as well. My legs were so puffy
that I could not sit for meditation because I could
not bend my knees to cross my legs without extreme pressure
on the skin. My energy level dropped, and I felt terrible.
I understood why people start to feel so bad that they
just want to give up on life.
I had been vegan before, many years ago. I had always
lost weight being vegan, so I decided to do it again.
At the same time, I picked up a women's magazine with
an article about how weakness in various organs causes
various problems. Since the liver processes fats, I
began to realize that my weight problem was more than
just eating too much or not working out!
I had been put on a pharmaceutical that affects the
liver. I read the package insert when I started on it,
but I thought my liver was in good shape (it probably
was then!). The doctor told me I could stay on this
for the rest of my life. NOT TRUE!
No doctor has ever suggested any tests for my liver.
Instead, they just continue to remind me every year
that I still need to lose some weight, and they suggest
diets that are far higher in fats and calories than
what I actually eat. It has been somewhat frustrating,
so I have tried to heal myself.
I began to work on my liver by eating a vegan diet
and taking various natural remedies to support its function.
I used ginseng to stimulate the liver and give me more
energy so I would feel more like walking. That helped.
Within two months, I lost fifteen pounds (mostly fluid
that had collected in my legs) and was feeling much
more energetic. I felt like walking and doing yoga and
I started shaping up, even thought I still have about
thirty pounds to go. I eat more fresh fruits and vegetables
and less food cooked in or with oils.
If you are overweight and cannot seem to lose it, stop
blaming yourself. Go vegan and use all fats sparingly,
even vegetable fats. And start walking. If you walk
just an hour at lunch instead of sitting and eating,
you can lose five pounds a month or more. So don't give
up. Go vegan!
