Visiting Relatives
I love the holiday season and in particular Thanksgiving. I suppose it is because I have been living in England for the past ten years that I have come to cherish this day so much. It is the time of year when I make my flight back to Ohio to be with family and friends. Although this year the spark seems to have gone out of my enthusiasm.
I usually find myself numbering the calendar with the countdown of "days to go" before my trip to Cleveland. However, this year in light of what has happened on September 11 and with some of my favorite airlines cutting back on flights, not to mention the war, I must pray that I will get to go back and continue my happiness of being thankful with my relatives. This year, especially, I think we all have so much to be thankful for as we sit down to our feast. While it has taken my relatives awhile to accept my vegan views and eating habits, they now realize that I can be perfectly content with my nut roast and sweet potatoes and all the veggies that I please. I even got them to sample my vegan pumpkin pie. Unfortunately, they take it smothered in Cool Whip, so I think to myself, "What's the point?" At least it is shared in love, and isn't that the point of life anyway? I am sure the spark will soon return in my anticipation for the upcoming holiday, and it will be better than ever.
