Send
in the Clowns
With sincere apologies to Stephen Sondheim
This is the story of a happy young couple who suddenly
find themselves in a crisis because one of them has
become a vegetarian.
Isn't it rich,
Are we a pair,
I won't eat animals
and you just don't care
SEND IN THE CLOWNS
Isn't it bliss,
We've lost our feel
One who has opened his eyes
One whose are sealed
But where are the clowns?
SEND IN THE CLOWNS
Just when I thought, we had it all
Finally finding the one who could make me feel tall
Making this mess, with my usual flair,
But I can't take their lives, it just isn't fair.
Don't you love the farce,
I've changed, it's clear
But I can't ignore what I see,
their pain and their fear.
But where are the clowns?
SEND IN THE CLOWNS
Don't bother; they're here.
Isn't it rich,
Isn't it queer,
We can't keep living like this
it's a veneer.
But where are the clowns?
SEND IN THE CLOWNS
Well . . . maybe next year.
