Inspired to be Vegan: A Letter from Tonya S.
Hi Jo,
I have the Vegan Sourcebook, Being Vegan, and also The Ultimate Uncheese Cookbook, which has inspired my husband to experiment with the recipes and present me with interesting new cheesy-looking creations to eat! Your books have all helped to inspire us along the way to finally take the last leap and not look back from being vegan. No more excuses.
I became a vegetarian nineteen years ago. I have never eaten another morsel of meat again and have always tried to avoid animal ingredients in the products I buy and be a conscious consumer.
I guess I did know about the suffering of chickens and cattle and the connection between the dairy and the veal industries, but somehow I was still able to justify them. Now I have finally accepted that I have been irresponsible in thinking it would be so difficult to give up cheese and yogurt. I just cannot personally contribute to the suffering any longer. I want to get everyone I know to think more about what they are eating and how their food affects the big picture, the circle of life. The conditions these animals endure is reprehensible. I don't want to be part of the reason it is allowed to continue.
Thank you for being such an inspiration, and for all of the wonderful recipe ideas that allow me to not feel as if I am giving up something but instead starting down a new path with many rewards and true joy.
Peace,
Tonya S.
