Wholesome Ethnic Fast Food
Recently I purchased Vegan Deli from you and wow, I must say that it is a fantastic compilation of recipes. I know that you often push The Saucy Vegetarian as being a good book for people with undeveloped cooking skills or with little time, and I think that Vegan Deli has been overlooked as far as these issues are concerned. So many of the recipes are soooooo quick to make, as they mainly revolve around a tin of beans and a dressing anyway! I especially love the way the recipes are so adaptable -- thereís always enough ingredients somewhere in my kitchen, even when itís almost shopping-day, to make one of the recipes and maybe substitute a vegetable, bean, or grain here and there.
Anyhow, I love the book Ė Iíve already tried 30 of the recipes, many of which Iíve gone back to for a second go. I guess that if you take my pre-vegan cheese-addiction out of the picture (and my resultant addiction to Ultimate Uncheese), Vegan Deli becomes my most favourite, most relied upon cookbook. In fact, when my shopping-day comes along each week, I sit down at the kitchen table with Vegan Deli and pen out a list of recipes that I want to buy ingredients for -- so much of my diet revolves around this book!
So there you go, just wanted to pass on this feedback for you. Love your work!
"Thank you so much for Vegan Deli! I didn't think that a good Jewish boy could go vegan, but your book has made all the difference! My mother is happy, too, that for the first time, her son's home is glatt kosher!"
"I've been making the recipes from Vegan Deli both for work and for special occasions. I've made many of the salads and soups, and they worked out well for party fare and also for taking to work for lunch! The food in this book is sinfully delicious--and what variety! From the vinaigrette coleslaw to all the potato salads--wow! I also was intrigued by the Middle Eastern recipes, and the "Boneless Chickenless Chicken Salad" will be a staple for years to come. The "fruit soup" was great, too. This book has been terrific for the winter holiday season and perfect for my busy work schedule. It has enhanced my understanding of the cuisine of the deli and ethnic cuisines in general--vegan style."
