Here are some common meeting areas for homeschool chatters:

Note: If you are unable to find "nemesis.acronet.net" as an option for "server," click on the 'Add' button. The description block is the name as it will show up on your list. You can put the word Acronet there; the port block should already be filled in with 6667. The Group and Password blocks should be left blank. Type nemesis.acronet.net in the IRC Server block. Click on the 'Add' button and then the 'Connect to IRC Server' button. You should be able to connect and then join #tog or #kitchen. You can set your IRC setting to join automatically the room you want to be in.
