When all the work is completed, Prince Dhutmose is well pleased with the artwork, with Pepi's talent at name-guessing, and with the chance inclusion of the prince's well-loved cat in the many tomb paintings. Based on imagination and fact, this oversized book with its brilliant illustrations in lapis, sand, and crocodile tones will make a good addition to units on ancient Egypt. The Kids' Money Book $6
be Neale Godfrey. 125 pages. A cheerful approach to all things financial plus playful photo collages and colorful drawings make up this fact-filled compendium of everything kids could possibly need to know about money--and more. Neale S. Godfrey, a nationally recognized expert on kids and money, tell the story of money--from bartering to investing--with animated appeal. Each subject receives careful and lively attention: the history of money; earning, saving, and spending money; banking facts and bank account information; credit card explanations and warnings ("It's In-credit-ible!"); information about America's economic structure and the government's economic role; taxes; the laws of supply and demand; inflation and depression; and stocks and bonds. Fun financial trivia is interspersed throughout, and word problems and matching games complete each of the nine chapters.
Godfrey does a fine job of covering complicated concepts, successfully tying explanations with kids' everyday experiences (for example, creating a business plan for a dog-walking service). Kids will enjoy learning about finances with this easy-to-digest format, and grown-ups may be surprised to learn a thing or two as well. This book is about as far from dull gray, boring, banking as it gets.

The K to 2 book has three questions at each level.
For each story the book title, author, publication information, and a synopsis are included, followed by the questions. For example, in the lesson on The Story of Babar the Little Elephant, a comprehension question would be "why did the elephants choose Babar as their king?" while more complex questions would be: "compare and contrast Babar's life in the jungle as a baby with his new life as King of the Elephants" (analysis), "Suppose that Babar didn't meet the old lady. Tell a new story about his adventures in town." (synthesis), or "judge whether the hunter had the right to kill Babar's mother. Explain your answer" (evaluation).

How to Report on Books $3
80 pp. These projects get children thinking in a new light about the process of reading a book and sharing what they've learned about it. They may be creating a new cover for a book, "selling" a book to, creating a video book review with a camcorder, making puppets of a book's main characters, interviewing a book's author (role playing), or assembling a book diorama. In addition, they can make a traditional written book report using one of several different report forms, each of which emphasizes slightly different aspects of a book. Fun illustrations highlight each form. Several fun reproducible book logs for tracking reading. There is an extensive bibliography for teachers and students broken down by topic, providing four to five suggested titles under each. Complete, step-by-step instructions for every project. Cover has some creases and name written on inside. This was a wonderful book for ideas! Grades 2-5. (I really think only through grade 3).
