Only a person who doesn't know what they are talking about re: unschooling, would think and say what you said, "Normal Person". It's like saying all welfare recipients are cheats. You can't lump everyone together.

My 20 yr old grand-daughter, whom I homeschooled for 4 years (kindergarten & up), then UNschooled clear through high school, got into ITT Technical Institute for Graphic Design - she was worried about the algebra class, but she handled it beautifully by applying herself and taking advantage of every avenue of help that was extended her (friends, tutoring by teachers and administration at ITT, DVD's they gave her at the school).

Did either of us think she'd be able to do that when we were in the middle of home/unschooling? No, we didn't. She liked ancient history, early U.S. History, Olde English history -- anything to do with computer technology -- animal science - art -- and is a voracious reader who loves to write poetry and stories. Math was a curse and she fought it! [Confession: I would have fought even harder to have her learn it more thoroughly, if I could go back] It still is a curse - she uses her computer to balance her checkbook!

She is enjoying working at her first job - on the computer, at home (someone she knew recommended her for the job). She has written policies and procedures for a new company, she is in charge of 7 other people and is highly thought of by the owner/boss of the company as well as the VP.

There are so many many avenues available these days to help anyone who wants to homeschool or unschool. Of course, a parent must take advantage of these and be a stickler to stay on course.

Oh....did I mention my granddaughter has not used drugs, doesn't drink, doesn't cuss, is particular about who she dates and is very well liked by people of all ages?

Char...who wouldn't have done it any other way.
