Hello I am a mother of special needs in Fl. There are loopholes here in the
Law that if you are registered in an umbrella school (and they vary with
involvement) basically you are accountable to them re: attendance sheets and
submitting your child's grades. It is considered a private school so the School
districts are not involved with curriculum.
I have a dear friend here with a special needs child unschooling now
registered in an umbrella school.
Her husband was offered a transfer to the Boston area and she is freaking out
about Ma. Law She was finding the HSLDA site confusing, when her computer
went on the blink. The library is a difficult place w/ her child's behavior. For
the first time sincew they have been HS'ing, she is panicking that she will
have to do State exams, accountability to the district, when the school system
has never done the right thing for her child.
Please shed light on how UN-schooling friendly Ma is. Most states allow some
element of HS'ing, but she does not want to move where the state is calling
the shots with her under 60 IQ child.
Unschooling is her style and that is where she wants to stay...even if she re-
locates.
Please tell me something good, to share with her.
Thanks in advance
