There are some good books, one I found years ago with a yellow cover, written by an unschooler which kind of prepared me for the time we are in now. Sorry I can't remember the name but try searching 'unschooling'. It may still be in print. If not I'll check back here and look for it and pass it on to you.
The whole notion of what you're doing is basically that you are choosing to just walk away from the same place everyone is is still too undecided to leave. Leaving for a negative reason probably won't get you far, but now that you're on the way, choose to continue (either way) with a real motive.
You say you want to learn. You're there. School as you know it hasn't filled that need. A new place. Frustration at what you think they need to be teaching. GREAT. Go look for it on your own. It's probably right there.
NOW. We took a year off to get used to not having the rhythms of school. That one went back and the disasters (or places of opportunity) have continued. He's been out of secondary for five years and he's still wandering. BUT not lost. So be prepared for the 'bends' when he'll want to go hang with friends, bug teachers, reach for the normalcy. . . Have something that you can provide. He's accustomed to the rat race. He will miss it. It won't be so cool when there's not someone telling you which turn to take every second.
