Please help. 4yr old can't identify letters or numbers

I have a 4yr old son who can't identify letters or numbers yet. He was in a Private school PK progam for the last 2 yrs. One of which I was his PK teacher. We used the Abeka K-3 and K-4 program. He just didn't do well either of those years. My husband and I made the decision for me to leave my teaching position and begin homeschooling our son and 9yr old daughter. I've found almost all I want to do with her, but for him, I don't know. I have B4FIAR,MUS Primer, and writing strands 1 but I just don't know what I should use to help him identify his letters and learn phonics. I know he's a smart boy but this is a real challenge for him and he is frustrated that he can't read. PLEASE HELP if you can? Thanks, Lisa
