If your son truly has Asperger's, a diagnosis will help confirm that and may also give you an idea of the degree to which he is impaired. He may be more -- or less -- affected than another person with the same condition. A lot of what you say sounds like a typical teenage boy, so a diagnosis will really help you get the information you need. If he is truly affected by this condition, then you might be able to find support and resources from groups/parents/others who have walked this road. It may cost some money to get him evaluated -- your public school system may be required to test him for you for free (you could check that out)-- but free or not, an assessment could be well worth it to get the information you need.
