I recently applied for SSI for my 19 year old daughter just last week. She is hearing impaired and has learning disabilities as well. I originally called Social Security and gave them pertinent information over the phone and made an appointment to bring her to their local office. They filled out all the paperwork and I gave them the names and phone numbers of all her doctors and service providers. The only problem we had was with the child support I receive from her father. They counted that as her income and deducted it from the total amount of monthly SSI. They also wanted to see my Court Order for Child Support to verify the amount we receive and how long it will continue. The only positive was that she will receive Medicaid for her health care.
