Subject:         What could help my son?

My oldest son is in sixth grade and if tested I think he would be diagnosed as
ADD. (not hyperactive, he just struggles with staying focused on school work)
I also noticed that he seems to have to process things differently that other
kids. It's almost like he has to take more steps in his mind to come up to the
same answer. For example, he can't just memorize a math fact a give a quick
answer; he takes a few seconds to process it, even with simple facts. And
every year he forgets most of them and we memorize them again. He is
super bright, but always seems about two sentences behind in every
conversation. Even when he's paying attention, I have to repeat myself and
explain things for him that other people just "get". Do these "sympoms"
sound like anything familiar to any of you? My husband doesn't want to get
him tested for learning disorders; he's afraid the label will hurt him more
than the condition. I'm not so sure. I'd like to know what were dealing with
so I can help him. I'd thought I'd start here and see if anyone has kids with
similar struggles.
Thanks everyone!
