Is it possible to be effective in homeschooling a 7th grade student and successfully complete your last year of college? The answer to both questions is yes! The key, and this is critical, is the way you set up and organize the homeschooling committment, family, and your own higher education. If the foundation isn't properly established, both a difficult and miserable year will result.
I just finished an academic year of homeschooling multi-age, multi-grade elementary and middle school students. My students were phenomenally successful! I am also working on a post-Masters degree and raising children as well. I must add, while I am a homeschool mom, I am also a licensed educator. I am no longer in the classroom, yet continue to work with classroom teachers on creating child centered learning environments that reach all students. I also assist parents re-build an excitement in learning for children who haven't been successful in traditional classrooms; as well as for children who are academically gifted and learn to excel in an alternatively structured setting via homeschool.
I do have one question. You identify your son as a struggling reader. Is his struggle a result of skill deficits or limited interest in reading?
I offer several services to homeschool parents and classroom teachers. If you would like more information, please feel to send an e-mail to my attention, Ms. Summers, at earthenvesselcollection@yahoo.com
