I tried a bunch of things - I did freelance writing, grant writing, sold Mary Kay, did dog training, technical writing, editing, tutoring...
I ran into a lot of problems. The writing income tended to be sporadic and I never knew what I would have coming in. Dog training ditto, and I had to drive a lot! Mary Kay was okay but I do not like selling stuff and I do not like having to pay money for inventory that I could get stuck with.
I finally found a moms' work at home cooperative that does marketing and advertising, but they provide the tools so you don't need a business background or experience. I am new to it but so far it is working, reliably, and I like it a lot. It's flexible so I don't need huge blocks of time.
